Analysis of Wahhabism

While most people would now agree that we are at war with terrorism, few would acknowledge that this is a war against theocratic totalitarism. R. James Woolsey, former director of Central Intelligence, has no doubt about that and warns us in a must read article, that Wahhabism is "the most dangerous of the ideological enemies we face".

In case, you don't know much about Wahhabism, this article does a good job at explaining it and drawing striking parallelism with other forms of fascism. Here are some of the frightening facts that he mentions: "the BBC reported on July 18 of this year that a publication given to foreign workers in Saudi Arabia by the Islamic cultural center, which falls under the authority of the ministry of Islamic affairs, advocates the killing of "refusers" (Shia). The imam of Al-Haram in Mecca, (Islam's most holy mosque), Sheikh Abd Al-Rahman al-Sudayyis, was barred from Canada last year after the translation of his sermons calling Jews "the scum of the earth" and "monkeys and pigs" who should be "annihilated." Materials distributed by the Saudi government to the Al-Farouq Masjid mosque in Brooklyn call for the killing of homosexuals and converts from Islam to another religion." He then added: "Wahhabi ideology is also totalitarian to a unique degree in its repression of women. In 2002 the world press carried stories of an extreme example: Religious police in Saudi Arabia forced some young girls fleeing a burning school back inside to their deaths because they were not properly veiled. This is a fanaticism that knows no bounds.".

Armed with wealth created thanks to oil, and benefiting from the fact that they rule over the two holiest places in Islam, Wahhabists have been very active (and effective) at promoting their fanatical version of Islam, and are spending several billions of dollars a year to preach their murderous teachings abroad.
